CPR and Aquatics Education Consortium in Partnership with Hurley Medical Center

The paramedic education program at the office of CPR and Aquatics Community Education Consortium LLC is goverened and operated under a consortium agreement between CPR and Aquatics Community Education Consortium LLC and Hurley Medical Center. This consortium known as 'CPR and Aquatics Education Consortium in Partnership with Hurley Medical Center' is the entity with overall responsibility for the paramedic education program.


Goal Statement

To prepare competent entry-level Paramedics in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains with or without exit points at the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician and/or Emergency Medical Technician and/or Emergency Medical Responder levels.


Sponsor Accreditation

CPR and Aquatics Education Consortium in Partnership with Hurley Medical Center does not operate an accredited paramedic program.


Institutional Accreditation

CPR and Aquatics Education Community Education Consortium LLC does not have accreditation.


Policy - Advanced Placement (AP) Credits

While CPR and Aquatics Education Consortium in Partnership with Hurley Medical Center understands the value of AP education, and the work that goes into those courses, we do not accept AP credits as a waiver of all or part of any portion of any EMS education program.


Policy - Transfer of Credits

CPR and Aquatics Education Consortium in Partnership with Hurley Medical Center is not a college. We are unable to accept credits from other institutions toward and part of any EMS program course.


Policy - Experiential Learning

Experiential learning is of immense value in many industries. Due to the nature of EMS education and the intensity of training, CPR and Aquatics Education Consortium in Partnership with Hurley Medical Center does not award credit or course waivers for experiential learning or any other credit-by-experience situation


Refund of Tuition/Fees

CPR and Aquatics Education Consortium in Partnership with Hurley Medical Center does not refund tuition or fees for students who do not complete some or all of a course that has been paid for, unless the refund request is made 30-days or more prior to the start date of the course.


Tuition Fees and Other Program Costs

The CPR and Aquatics Education Consortium in Partnership with Hurley Medical center offers paramedic education at a flat fee of $8,250.00. Currently grants are available courtesy of MDHHS that reduce this fee to $3,000.00. These grants are first-come-first-serve. When grant funding is no longer available, the course will return to original full cost.

The above cost does not include the cost of textbooks when grant funding is NOT available, which is $1,250.00. Grant funding covers textbook costs when grants are available.


Schedule Information (Paramedic)


Course Design

The paramedic program through CPR and Aquatics Education Consortium in Partnership with Hurley Medical Center (CPRACQ-HMC) offers an accelerated paramedic education course. This course is a 1324 hour course and completed of nine months. The course is divided into four semesters. This semester design is intended to be completed in 8 or 9 months, depending on the start date. There is no traditional semester start and end dates in the (CPRAQ-HMC) program like a traditional college has. The semester design is unique to the paramedic program, and serves to separate the course into four logically separated components. The semester start and end dates of any given paramedic program are predetermined when the course is being scheduled, prior to opening the class for public enrollment. All schedule information for a given paramedic cohort is made available to students when the course is announced and open to the public upon approval from the State of Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.

Since CPRAQ-HMC is not an accredited college, we do not award credit hours by semester or program.

Job Brief

We are looking for a trained paramedic to be part of our team of healthcare professioals attending primarily out-of-hospital medical incidents. The job isn't simple but it is very rewarding.


As an employee dealing mostly with emergencies you must be committed and focused. To be effective in the job, the ideal candidate must be very competent and knolwedgable as well as self-motivated and compassionate.


The goal is simply to contribute the best you can to help people in need and save lives.

Responsibilities

  • Operate ambulance equipment and respond to radio transmissions
  • Lead and coordinate the team responding to an emergency
  • Evaluate the patient’s condition on the scene and perform preliminary diagnosis
  • Attend to injuries or sudden illnesses by applying a variety of pre-hospital simple and advanced treatments (first aid, CPR, administering injections and oxygen etc.) or surgical procedures
  • Use tech equipment and tools to stabilize patients or provide immediate treatment
  • Collaborate with interested parties (police, firefighting unit, doctors etc.)
  • Write and submit concrete and accurate reports on incidents
  • Adhere to established medical protocols and procedures as well as legal guidelines and health and safety standards
  • Keep abreast with new treatment and medical procedures through continuous training

Requirements and Skills

  • Proven experience as a paramedic
  • Knowledge of medical procedures, terminology and medications
  • Ability to stay calm and make the right decisions in adverse conditions
  • Adaptable with a great deal of stamina
  • Excellent working knowledge of medical equipment and devices
  • Integrity and compassion towards human pain
  • Valid driver’s license
  • High school diploma; Licensed Paramedic is a must
